CRG Custody Nurse sets a world record

CRG Forensic Nurse Practitioner, Irene Robinson, has travelled around the world playing her bagpipes for charity.

Irene, who works in Dorset Custody suites under our CRG Medical Services division, became the first person to play the bagpipes on all seven continents travelling 50,000 miles in 50 days fundraising and raising awareness for The Royal Navy & Royal Marines Charity (RNRMC).

Irene began her self-funded 7 Continents Charity Piping Challenge on 19th January 2016 in New York. She travelled to Brazil, Antarctica, Sydney and Tokyo to name but a few before her finale on HMS Belfast in London on 27th February 2016.

Reflecting on her solo challenge, Irene commented: “Completing the challenge is such an achievement; it was an amazing adventure and I saw some fantastic sites even playing on top of the SkyWalk in Auckland. I dislike heights – it was crazy!”

Since completing the challenge, Irene has continued to fundraise for the RNRMC. The most recent events include supporting a Rock band at a music venue and playing at the Bournemouth Christmas Market.

Irene recently met HRH Princess Anne, Patron of The Royal Navy & Royal Marines Charity, at an evening organsied to thank volunteers for their hard work at Trinity House in London. Irene said: “It was an honour to meet HRH Princess Anne, her speech was inspirational and I had the opportunity to tell her of my next planned challenge for 2018.”

For her next challenge, Irene is planning to trek to Mount Everest Base Camp. This will be a great test of mental and physical endurance with temperatures as low as -20 degrees!

“I’m looking forward to trekking to Base Camp with a RNRMC banner to continue to raise awareness of this fantastic charity.”

Irene will be setting off on her next challenge on 29th January 2018 and will be regularly documenting her journey.

CRG would like to wish Irene the best of luck!
